When I grew older, I started wondering about the history and the extent of my family. I come from a Koryo-saram family, which belongs to a sizeable diaspora of Korean people in the post-soviet geospace (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Ukraine etc.). To keep track of how the family is evolving, I decided to start a genealogical database.

I’ve built a Ruby on Rails app for maintaining and inspecting my family tree. The app was entirely vibe coded by me and my brother. Currently, it has multi-language (English/Russian) person records, parent-child and marriage relationships, and birth/death dates that handle partial or uncertain information, the ability to attach media (e.g., pictures) to family members, and the ability to invite members to the system so that they can edit the database themselves.

Currently, you have to register or login to appreciate the app, but a public demo is in the works.
